Toen ik deze titel bij het nieuwe boeken zag had het meteen mijn aandacht: Nooit meer naar school. Gaat het over thuiszitters? Ja! Heel fijn, want hoewel er enorm veel thuiszitters zijn – Nederland telt minstens 15.000 thuiszitters – was ik nog niet eerder een jeugdboek over dit onderwerp tegengekomen.

Op deze kaftafbeelding zie je het al, maar op het exemplaar dat ik in handen had zat de prijs nog niet verwerkt (wel de sticker Getipt door De Grote Vriendelijke Podcast die ik er zelf op heb geplakt). Ik moest het even opzoeken: had deze dichtbundel voor pubers nu een Zilveren Griffel of Zilveren Penseel gewonnen? Het had volgens mij allebei gekund. Maar het was dus een Zilveren Griffel, voor de tekst.
Een geitje wordt geboren ‘na honderdvijfentwintig dagen en een paar uur persen’. Als slechts nog haar hoofd eruit geperst is, zien we op de illustratie een glimlachend geitje – wat een mooi begin – met een toefje feloranje haar.

Zodra de schoolbel klinkt begint voor iedere leerling zijn of haar weg naar huis. Sommige leerlingen lopen samen en hebben een gesprek over snot, sommige vormen een kleingeldstelende bende en gaan eerst nog op jacht, een meisje gaat per skatebord, een ander meisje maakt al lopend lijstjes, een jongen plukt rozen (met doorns) uit iemands tuin voor een ander, twee jongens zijn dikke vrienden met een ingewikkelde handshake, een jongen voert een masterplan uit om zijn leven te redden, een meisje gaat een live comedyshow geven in een speeltuintje, een jongen wordt door zijn vrienden opgeknapt en naar het meisje begeleid waar hij verliefd op is en de laatste blijft altijd bij het zebrapad waar zijn moeder klaar-over is.
Heartstopper [STRIP] / Alice Oseman Deel 1: Nick en Charlie ontmoeten elkaar… / uit het Engels vertaald door Niels van Eekelen
Een tijdje geleden stond Heartstopper tussen de nieuwe boeken: een stripverhaal voor jongeren van een jaar of 13 over de jongens Charlie en Nick die op de middelbare school verliefd worden op elkaar. Super, zoiets was er nog niet! En het zag er ook mooi uit. Na wat twijfels over de plaatsing besloot ik het in het MLP te plaatsen. Ik had het bekeken, maar voelde verder geen behoefte om het te lezen: ik ben niet zo van de romantische verhalen, en ook niet direct van de strips.
